Established by the Gundecha Brothers in 1999, the Dhrupad Sansthan Trust is a one-of-its-kind residential institute where students from around the world can benefit from Dhrupad education in the traditional Guru-shishya tradition, in which the Guru engages each student individually and guides them in their training.

The Institute also aims to help less privileged sections of society and provides free tuition for all its students. Students who can afford to do so pay a nominal fee to cover their living expenses, but many students are completely supported by the Gurukul.

An art form like Dhrupad can be effectively transmitted only through the Guru-Shishya tradition. Hence the Gurukul functions keeping the essence of this age-old system in mind, and imbibes contemporary pedagogy to create a holistic learning system that is simultaneously rooted in the strength of its tradition, while remaining relevant to current times.

Dhrupad Sansthan is a world class music institute with around 20 graduates already being recognized performers and also qualified teachers of this art form in India and other countries. The Gurukul is an active societal set-up, attracting students and visitors of over 35 nationalities, and more performers and teachers are being made ready to spread this art form around the world.

The Gurukul regularly hosts music festivals and formal informal as well as informal interactions with musicians, artists, theater exponents and others who can contribute to fruitful interaction of minds. This leads to people from different walks of life getting involved in this heritage, and at the same time provides newer dimensions of creative ideas and expressions to the students. Apart from this, the Gurukul organizes a concert series called Dhrupad Utsav among other programmes and workshops in various parts of the country, both individually and in collaboration with local bodies, to give a platform to meritorious young Dhrupad artists, and also to promote this art form among music listeners and audiences overall.
